Defend and Sustain Hat

Defend and Sustain was the first project that spurred Elevate's Policy of Generosity Artful Trucker Hats series. Over $1000 has been raised for Salmon Beyond Borders from Defend and Sustain purchases since August of 2018!

The original ink and watercolor design on a black trucker hat includes a sockeye salmon with a mountainscape inside and a salmon stream with curves filled with salmon roe both flowing from the main design and across the top of the brim. The phrase "Defend and Sustain", a reference to Salmon Beyond Borders' conservation philosophy, is printed in silver on the lower corner of the hat face.

Elevate's Policy of Generosity Artful Trucker Hats series includes original designs linked to different local nonprofit organizations actively contributing to the advancement of environmental, educational and societal wellness. Each hat sale includes a donation to an associated nonprofit, resulting in a shared effort toward supporting our community as a community.

$5 from each Defend and Sustain hat sale is donated to Salmon Beyond Borders in the name of defending and sustaining the transboundary salmon rivers of Alaska and B.C., including the jobs and way of life those rivers support.

This hat comes in black and camo and was locally hand-produced in Juneau, Alaska by the Aurora Project.

“Salmon Beyond Borders is a campaign driven by sport and commercial fishermen, community leaders, tourism and recreation business owners and concerned citizens, in collaboration with Tribes and First Nations, united across the Alaska/British Columbia border to defend and sustain our transboundary rivers, jobs and way of life.
The Taku, Stikine-Iskut, and Unuk-Nass are transboundary watersheds, and home to world-class salmon rivers that originate in Northwest B.C. and flow into Southeast Alaska. These rivers produce 80% of Southeast Alaska king salmon. At least twelve B.C. large-scale, open-pit and underground metal mines are in various stages of abandonment, proposal, permitting, or operation in the headwaters of these rivers.
