Raku pottery is created using an ancient Japanese technique of firing which produces the diverse crackling aspects unique to each piece.  The raku pottery on this website is created by Jeremy Diller, proprietor of Raku Potteryworks, located in Southern California.

Raku pottery is formed from raw clay.  It is painted by hand, then fired in an outdoor kiln to 2,000 degrees.  Red hot, it is plunged into a pit with mesquite shavings lighting a blaze.  The flames engulfing this piece of art give it its unique flashes of color and crackle, making it one-of-a-kind.

Only the strongest survive the trial by fire.

Raku pottery is fired at a low temperature, leaving it porous.  These jars will not hold water.

Raku pottery fades over time when exposed to direct sunlight, so keep your beautiful piece of art away from windows.
