The “Whirled View” Experience
Just before midnight on January 6, 2015 near Hope, Alaska, with very little warning the aurora erupted beyond belief and began dancing up and down the Turnagain Arm, curling and whirling on all sides. I found an inviting composition deep within the spruce trees and from this vantage point I had the sensation of looking through a window into another world, turbulent yet calming. My “Whirled View.”
Local photographer Todd Salat is known across Alaska for his photos of the aurora borealis, also known as the Northern Lights, as well as breath-taking Alaska landscapes.
