The Back Story:
Majestic Moose
The moose is a solitary creature and does not roam in herds. In the fall during mating season several may appear in close proximity to each other if there is a female present. During this time males will challenge each other for the affections of all females in the area. A less dominate male will stand down; otherwise they will charge each other via their antlers until one submits. This is rarely a very serious battle because if their antlers lock they could both die. Once mating season is over the male drops his antlers to conserve energy for winter. In spring the antlers grow back in as little as 3 months.
